SWAT TACTICS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR ACTIVE SHOOTER EVENTS
Research based on reports like the NYPD’s ‘Active Shooter Recommendations and Analysis for Risk Mitigation’ released in January 2011, shows that over 95% of incidents since 1966 have been dealt with by First Responders.
Techniques and tactics MUST reflect this as officers are likely to be on their own or with a partner. IF they act immediately to stop the violence.
SWAT tactics, requiring 3 or more officers, simply aren’t appropriate in these circumstances.
